A Message from the Team RepresentativeGreetings to all returning swimmers and their families and a warm welcome to all new families joining the Stingray team this season. We have come along way from our early beginnings as a small team. As South Riding grew, the Stingrays adapted to the growth by first creating the Mini-Rays to serve the large number of younger swimmers just learning the sport and last year the dream of having two competitive swim teams representing our community was realized when we joined the ODSL league. Swimmers who choose to swim for the Colonial Swimming League (CSL) will be part of a group that was founded in 1962 to sponsor competitive swimming among community swimming organizations in Northern Virginia. The CSL offers Wednesday night developmental swimming for all swimmers and Saturday morning meets that have time-based swimmer selection. The CSL is comprised of four Divisions (Red, White, Blue and Gold) consisting of six competitively matched teams. The Stingrays are currently in the White Division and will be swimming against Franklin Glen, Chase Club, Chantilly Highlands, Burke Center Penguins, and (a new team to CSL this year) Broadlands. The primary objectives of the league are to: Foster a high level of competition between the teams Develop the potential of individual swimmers Single out for distinction individual swimmers, age groups and teamsWithin in this competitive framework, the CSL strives to foster a love for the sport for all swimmers, to advance skills, teamwork and the principles of good sportsmanship. The Stingrays take this one step further by encouraging camaraderie and community spirit in all team activities. This can only be accomplished by the hard work and effort of not just our swimmers and coaching staff, but all those parent volunteers who make summer swimming such an enjoyable and successful experience for all. Let the season begin! Val Cavalheri
